"Radian Retrofit Conference 2011" - 20 May 2011, Guildhall Winchester

Radian, a leading housing and care provider based in the South of England, is hosting the Radian Retrofit Conference 2011 at Guildhall Winchester, Hampshire, on 20th May. Radian is upholding its credentials as one of the UK’s most innovative pioneers of retrofit and sustainable development within the social sector by enabling the sharing of the latest breakthroughs and best practice from across Europe, which it is providing free of charge to delegates.

As the first ever social housing association to secure European Regional Development Funding (ERDF) for a UK retrofit project, Radian is well placed to share the lessons learnt throughout its 18 month Retrofit South East project to develop a model for the low carbon retrofit of social housing.

Radian has established a reputation for expertise in retrofit and sustainable development, which has been reaffirmed numerous times by the many national awards it has won and the sold-out successes of its past conferences. Radian has attracted many notable speakers for this year’s conference, including Chris Huhne MP, UK Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change and Marie Donnelly, Director at the European Commission’s Directorate General for Energy.

________

David Orr, Chief Executive, National Housing Federation, a speaker at the last Retrofit Conference, declared that, “Radian is a green pioneer and way out there at the forefront of the movement. The challenge is for everyone else to get to the level that they are at.”

This year’s conference, “European Solutions to a Global Problem” takes a more holistic and international approach to challenges faced within the UK. Radian is working in partnership with CECODHAS Housing Europe and in conjunction with the EU Sustainable Energy Week, to explore European solutions to address funding, currently the principal barrier to mainstream UK retrofit, and discover innovations to solve specific problems.

________

Dr Caroline Lucas, Member of Parliament and leader of the Green Party states, “Radian is putting sustainability into practice, not just talking about it, and they are doing it in an inclusive way. Radian is at the forefront of the sustainable movement and all the awards they have deservedly won demonstrate that.”

The gathering of leading authorities in sustainability from across Europe will give delegates the opportunity to discover the very latest developments in retrofit and the foremost opinions on the hottest topics, as well as providing the platform to share experiences with peers and quiz the panel of experts.
