Description
The residential sector accounts for roughly 30 % of carbon dioxide emissions in Europe. In order to reduce this environmental impact refurbishment of the building stock is indispensible. However, also low-cost investment measures or behavioural changes in everyday routines can lead to considerable savings of up to 20 % and the costs for taking such measures are close to cero or low!
The project BewareE, which is co-financed by the EU Intelligent Energy Europe Program, aims to reduce this user-related energy consumption by promoting the implementation of “energy awareness services”. The BewareE database displays a high variety of such services: These range from IT-based monitoring and visualisation systems, which increase the transparency of consumption, to street theatre plays for children or training measures for tenants that would then advice their neighbours in energy questions.
The central outcome of the project is a manual for developing and implementing energy awareness services. This manual which was composed by the four project partners from Germany (IZT), France (EIFER), the Netherlands (IVAM) and Spain (INASMET-TECNALIA), addresses all potential service providers, such as housing companies, energy suppliers, energy agencies or consumer protection associations. In addition to important theoretical background information on stimulating behavioural changes, the manual presents different „intervention strategies“, numerous examples of successfully implemented services and a 6-step-model for the realisation of services.
