Description

The training package is composed by texts, slides and summaries, accessible on a web site, addressing the following three issues:
- Advanced technologies: are described by specialists (e.g. , Replacing glazing, integrating solar hot water systems or photovoltaic systems on a roof, preheating ventilation air, insulating and reducing thermal bridges).
- Tools are proposed (e.g. thermal calculation, life cycle assessment, sustainability assessment, cost calculation), allowing to assess the interest of these technologies in terms of energy saving and improvement of environmental quality.
- Case studies (e.g. European demonstration projects): The presentation illustrate the approach and professional good practice.

Implementation

A first version of the material, elaborated in 2006, has been distributed to a users group in order to be reviewed by teachers. The feed back has been collected and the material has been adapted accordingly.

Information

Teachers” have the possibility to download this material, to adapt it to a specific public (e.g. architects, engineers), and to integrate some modules in a more global course (e.g. continuing education of architects in environmental quality of buildings, course on solar renovation, energy efficient facility management etc.).
As collecting relevant pictures (e.g. technical details, illustration of a design tool, case studies) is time consuming,  the material will therefore make the preparation of courses easier by providing pictures showing best practice, and the corresponding explanatory texts.
“Teachers” can then select slides and adapt them according to a local context. The material could eventually be translated for replication in various countries.
So, the developed material can be used in a flexible way within more global courses, e.g. :
 - continuing education of architects regarding the environmental quality of buildings,
 - continuing education of social housing managers in regarding the management of a retrofit project
