Description of the Platform

Description of the Platform

The HSB POWER HOUSE Platform is composed by all HSB’s members and focuses its activities on a common strategy entitled “HSB Climate Strategy”. POWER HOUSE EUROPE is meant to contribute to HSB work on energy efficiency by providing key information from a European perspective and facilitating the exchange of information and best practices with the other POWER HOUSE Platforms. Other support is given to HSB thanks through the cooperation with Energy Agencies and other key Swedish environmental organisations and research institutes.

Platform Strategy

“POWER HOUSE EUROPE is a part of the "HSB Climate Strategy". The strategy sets target for HSB Cooperatives of 40% reduction in CO2e (CO2 equivalent) by the 100th anniversary of the organisation in 2023, with 2008 as a base line. Calculations of HSB’s climate impact are made annually based on a common methodology and are integrated into HSB sustainability reporting. HSB members have already signed up to the HSB Climate Agreement and started to calculate their climate impact. HSB members see POWER HOUSE EUROPE as a good opportunity to exchange experiences and new ideas and compare progress in different countries. The POWER HOUSE survey revealed an interest in finding out more about innovative technical measures on energy efficiency with a specific focus on heating systems and energy efficient appliances.” - Ms Mia Torpe, HSB POWER HOUSE Platform coordinator.

Following a performance review, the Platform Coordinator has issued an updated strategy statement and priorities going forward:

A new project called “Climate 2.0” has been initiated by HSB; this project is focused on providing services to improve energy efficiency, promote innovation and to further develop the climate calculations and ratios. Renewable energy will be an integrated part of “Climate 2.0” - foremost wind power in cooperative form. HSB is also working on a guidebook which purpose is to support our members’ tenants and owners associations in putting in place energy efficiency measures. Connected to the book, a web-tool to easily calculate the energy consumption in dwellings will be made available. In conclusion, HSB will also continue its work by actively contributing to the debate and law making process on energy efficiency and sustainable cities in Sweden.” - Ms Mia Torpe, HSB POWER HOUSE Platform coordinator.
